Gluten-Free Gift Ideas

The holiday season is upon us and it’s time for people to start asking us what we want for the holidays. If you are reading my blog, you probably want some sort of miracle for your body issues but since that isn’t going to happen, let’s find some awesome ideas for you to give your loved ones this holiday season.

Here is my list of gluten-free holiday items!

  1. Gift Cards – Now, I know what you are thinking… “that’s not a very exciting gift!” But, I challenge to think outside the box on this one. Gift cards for us are like free money to try products we might have been scared to spend our own $10 on! I see gift cards as exploratory money. It’s for items I’ve wanted to try but have been afraid of spending my own money on them. Gift cards can also help offset the cost of some of the things we buy on a regular basis. I would love an Amazon gift card to buy my vitamins and/or gluten-free products! Then I can buy those shoes I’ve been eyeballing at Neiman Marcus Last Call.
  2. Kitchen products – There are all kinds of fun and funky new kitchen items and I’m sure you don’t want to replace everything on your own. A new bright-colored toaster from Target? How about a new foldable colander or funky cutting board?
  3. Beauty products – If you’ve been around my blog, you know I love and adore Red Apple Lipstick! They are having  holiday sale so if you’ve been considering it, now’s the time to buy!  Not only can you request items from them, but giving their products to friends and family, you can show them that not everything gluten-free is gross! Red Apple Rocks! There are other brands as well such as Afterglow Cosmetics, Lovely Lady Organic Products or Gabriel Cosmetics (I like the ZuZu line).
  4. Nail Polish – Believe it or not, if you bite your nails and wear polish, you could be consuming gluten. My favorite gluten-free nail polish is Deborah Lippmann! She has the most amazing colors with sparkles galore. OPI is another brand that is gluten-free and is the most recognized when you are going to get your nails done.
  5. Celiac and the Beast Book – Check out my friend Erica’s book! If you have celiac or know someone who has celiac, this is the greatest gift for them! Or gluten-free cook books and/or magazines!
  6. Craft Classes? Yes, believe it or not I love this website and think so many of my friends do one or another of the classes they offer so why not suggest something fun from Craftsy? If we are going to make gluten-free cakes that don’t always taste up to par, the lease we can do is take a class on how to make it look pretty! They also have quilting, sewing, photography, knitting and more!
  7. Pretty Little Celiac Products! – Shameless self promotion here :) Lots of stuff I would love to sell. Since we moved into our apartment, I just don’t have the space to store everything anymore. Once it’s gone, it’s gone – so get it asap!

Red Apple Lipstick – Best Pretty in Pink Colors

Today I had the pleasure of doing a photo shoot for the Women’s Book feature in their next edition focusing on health and wellness issues! They are doing a story on me and opening Bexa Body Fitness along with all the things I’m involved with in Columbus, including the female athlete training I do with our local high school, Westerville Central.

Some of my athletes joined me today at the gym to participate in the photo shoot and be part of the group!

Needless to say, my Red Apple Lipstick order came just in time for the photo shoot!

My newest order are basic colors that I would wear every day. I absolutely love a light pink eye shadow for every day wear. It’s pretty and simple without looking dramatic or plain. You can’t go wrong with a pretty in pink shade like TUTU Cute.

I already have some hot pink lip stick colors and gloss so the gorgeous shine to the Pink Martini is the perfect complement to any lipstick and is gorgeous for an every day look. The key with every day make up is that you want it to look fun and fresh without going over board.

I use a brush to gently tap the eye shadow onto my eye. If you brush it back and forth, the shadow will fly all over your face and make a mess. You can use their eye shadows wet or dry. The wet look is more dramatic so for a day look, I would stick with the powder.

On my eyes, I have a light black liner and I use Buxom mascara.

Tomorrow I plan to do a video tutorial on how to get a flawless face with gluten-free make up. If you aren’t already subscribed to my YouTube page, make sure you do it now!

Gluten Free Haircare Giveaway – ColorProof

When my hairdresser said she started to carry gluten free products just for me, I was elated. She is amazing and I’ve been going to Teresa Carter for many years here in Columbus. I love all things beauty and my hair is just one more thing for me to obsess over. I’ll admit, my hair falling out was a huge sign for me that something was wrong with my body. It was very long but just not healthy.

I reached out to ColorProof to see if they would be interested in doing a giveaway for my readers because hair care is a question I am constantly asked about! And they were so wonderful to send me products to use and some for you to win! I’m giving away all 4 products in one swoop.

These products smell delicious – Is that even a thing? I just want to smell my hair all day. This might be the game changer from only washing my hair 2 times a week. I am extremely impressed with these products and they have a fan for life!

Straight from their website

All ColorProof products are formulated to deliver all of the good benefits, and none of the bad.

All Products are:

So, where can you buy these fabulous products? They are salon quality so you will have to find a salon that carries them around your area. they have a finder on their website. What if there isn’t a salon near you selling them? ColorProof tells me, “Our products are only sold at salons and spas…. We are constantly updating our locator with new salons but if a reader still cannot find a salon in their area we would encourage them to ask their stylist about ordering ColorProof for them!”

Red Apple Lipstick – Gluten Free and Fabulous!

I’ve been wanting to try Red Apple Lipstick for sometime now but was hesitant to spend the money on something I didn’t get to play with and try at first. Thankfully, they were at the Gluten Free & Allergen Free Expo and I explored their products before the thousands of people rushed the event.

I got a few things that you can see in the video but I’ll give you a little synopsis about them here.

1. Lip Exfoliator – Everyone needs to get those dead cells off their lips to make them every so soft and this does the trick. Just enough beads to make it work but not feel grainy or sandy on your lips.

2. Rallye Balm – The ultimate hydration for your lips. I’m going to start wearing this at night and see how soft and silky I can make my lips. Vitamin E is the greatest thing for soft skin and they put lots of it in Rallye!

3. Lipstick – I went with a lighter shade of pink to be neutral and wear out all the time. It’s a great consistency and goes on well. They have a wide variety of shades to pick from so if you are Pink, Peach or red, there is something for you.

4. Glosses – I got both a sparkly gloss and a regular one. My favorite is the “Hot Mess” pink gloss. The more you layer, the darker it gets. I wore it for my photo shoot today and it looked amazing on camera.

Gluten-Free Make-Up Review – Zuzu Luxe from Gabriel Cosmetics Inc

What you may not know about me is that I love make-up. I know this blog has mostly been centered around gluten-free living and I’m excited to start a new video series about gluten-free beauty. When researching different things, I found there are limited resources regarding gluten-free make-up tips and beauty videos. Well, I’m going to change that starting today.

A few months ago, I went through all my make-up and thought I did a great job with finding out what has gluten in it and what didn’t but an incident the other night had me question how well I did in my investigations. While applying my make-up, I got some of my mineralized foundation from MAC cosmetics in my eye and it felt like my eye was going to shrivel up in the socket. It burned for almost an hour and make me look like a creepy villain from a horror film.

Turns out I read the product review online and interpreted it the wrong way!!! The products I’ve been using do contain gluten and my eyeball clearly let me know. It goes to show that you don’t have to eat your make-up for it to negatively affect your body. There are many people who have allergic reactions on their skin from gluten and should avoid all products containing gluten both on their skin and in their body.

So, while we were at Earth Fare shopping for groceries, I decided to check out the make-up offerings and try a couple of new things. They had a couple of small displays of make-up in the health and wellness section which was frustrating for me because I’m used to the candy land of the MAC counter or Sephora but what did I expect from being in a grocery store?

After trying a couple of things, I ended up buying a product called ZUZU Luxe which is actually a brand from Gabriel Cosmetic Inc. I purchased their oil free foundation and concealer. Typically I only use foundation when I am going to an event or out for the night. I’m fortunate that my skin is cooperative (most of the time) so I can get away with using concealer and powder on a daily basis. Needless to say the foundation lasts me quite a long time.

I hope by changing products, these random pimples will stop forming!

The concealer was $16.49 and the oil free liquid foundation was $29.99. I’m used to spending about this much on cosmetics so the price tag didn’t scare me. If you use cheaper products, than this might seem like a splurge.

Now let’s get into the review…

What I loved:

Concealer: The concealer is thick and really covered blemishes and circles around my eyes pretty well. The formula worked well with my dry skin. I always put on a nice lotion before putting on any make-up. Dry skin is the worst for having a flawless complexion. The color also matched my skin tone pretty well. It also blended well into my skin and with the foundation.

Oil Free Foundation: I mean who doesn’t love a good oil free foundation? It went on smooth and even. The consistency of the formula worked great on my face and it felt light and fresh, not heavy like some other make up brands. It made a great canvass for the rest of my make-up for the day. Huge bonus, it stayed on for several hours – intact!

What I didn’t love:

Concealer: I hate the tubes with the little pointed tip applicator on the end. You just know that there is going to be a bunch of product at the end of the tube and for $17, I want to use every single drop in the container. I also found the choices of skin tone colors limiting. There was no guidance at the little make up stand on how to choose a color or what the colors meant. For instance at MAC, NW usually means warmer tones and NC are the cooler tones.

Oil Free Foundation: Again, the choices for skin tone colors are limited and no explanation at the stand on how to pick a shade or what the color letters mean.

I must say I was pleasantly surprised that I loved this make-up so much. I’ve been such a snob my whole life with make-up that I’m scared but excited to start branching out a little. Check out my video on how I applied it and see the difference between my faces.

This is my first Vlog so bear with me! I’m pretty excited about my new beauty room so I will be making this a weekly series of gluten-free beauty! I’m planning to do lots of videos on gluten-free make-up, application and tips for having a Pretty Little Celiac face!

This video was actually the second take because the first one I did, the camera was on the actual camera and not video – so I took a picture instead of a video. The demo was like 8 minutes long before I realized the camera wasn’t on! Whoops. Little bit of a learning curve here.

Pretty Little Celiac Beauty – ACURE Organics Review

img_33402

It’s official! I’m completely addicted to ACURE Organics products. I just keep telling myself I only need one product at a time.

After I read an article in July about products containing gluten, I’ve been more conscious about what I’m putting in and ON my body. I stumbled upon this shampoo and conditioner at Earth Fare and decided to give it a try. I am a self admitted shampoo snob so spending $10/bottle wasn’t much for me but I realize it can be a little steep. Totally Worth It!

My hair feels just as good as it did using $20/bottle Pureology shampoo and conditioner. I know it’s gluten free and I trust it’s not making me sick. Score!

Here is what their website says about the shampoo and conditioner:

For Normal to Dry/Damaged/Curly Hair

Provides lasting moisture to even the most dry and damaged hair leaving it soft, manageable and ready to rock. Organic Argan Oil + Argan Stem Cells, CoQ10, and Organic Sea Buckthorn Oil–high in Omega 7, make up our patent-pending Triple Moisture System. Pumpkin Seed Oil –high in Omega 3 and 6 fatty acids, adds shine. Hair repair with serious flair. Safe for color treated hair.

Next Up! I found a coupon at Earth Fare for their lotions – so I figured – why not?

Another favorite of mine! The ACURE lavender & echinacea stem cell calming body lotion!

Non-greasy. Great smelling. Soaks in the skin perfectly and it’s gluten free. You can’t beat it!

I don’t know about you- but when I have gluten or aren’t eating properly,  my skin gets SO dry. Especially from the Hashimoto’s Hypothyroid problems, sometimes I feel like a snake shedding my skin. For those of you suffering from Celiac Dermatitis, this might be a great product line for you to help calm your skin.

Here is what ACURE says about this product on their website:

It’s been a long day. Luckily this calming lotion is here to help you decompress. Super moisturization plus the calming effects of lavender and lotus flower you say? If we hadn’t made it, we’d be thanking the people that did. With nourishing Omega 3 fatty acids from organic pumpkin seed and argan oil!

ACURE Day Cream

My new addiction. I usually use Neutrogena face lotion with SPF 15 on a daily basis but it really can make my skin feel oily. I typically suffer from dry skin, so it is odd going to something that makes my face oily. The ACURE day cream goes on so smooth, non greasy and makes my face feel like a baby’s bottom. I love it.

The only thing I wish with this product is that it had sunscreen to protect my face from the UV rays of the sun. Because my skin is so fair and freckled, I really try to make sure I’m wearing sunscreen to protect it, especially as I’m getting older.

ACURE’s website says this about the day cream:

Face the day with Gotu Kola Stem Cells, shown to firm and help your skin fight environmental damage and free radicals, and 1% Chlorella Growth Factor, shown to support collagen and elastin fibers. This powerhouse combo helps fight off the signs of aging with a one-two punch. Easily Absorbed Moisture + Cell Renewal = Great Day!
